Two good reasons for learning Russian.

1. These days the West is doing more business with Russia than in Soviet times. Also  the other ex-Soviet states that are now independent are also keen to do business internationally and, although many of them like to use their own national  languages, Russian is still a lingua franca for practical purposes such as contact with overseas customers and suppliers.

2. Russian is a very beautiful language and worth learning for its own sake. And it is the key to the wonders of Russian literature.

Every language is a window
opening on another land.

When Russian falls upon my ear
or I read Cyrillic print,
I see golden cupolas
gleaming in a Northern sky
and faithful babushkas
holding to the faith they never left.
I see the red flag flying still,
holding to another faith
although it be in tatters
and disgrace.

RUSSIAN INTENSIVE RESIDENTIAL INDIVIDUAL COURSES

All intensive courses run from Monday to Saturday inclusive, leaving Sunday for arrival and departure. Each course consists of 24 hours tuition over six days. Written work is set to be completed outside of these hours and is then corrected. Cassettes and players are available also for practice, and there are Russian films [with subtitles!] for viewing on some evenings. These courses are individual one-to-one tuition unless 2 people arrange to come together. Such couples should be at the same level.
Otherwise neither will benefit fully from the tuition.

Individual courses can be arranged at any time [subject to other bookings] and at any level. Participants may request a particular line of study to suit their own interests and purpose. It would help if students who have done some Russian would let me know at time of booking approximately what they have done and where they feel they most need help. It would also be
useful to know which books they have studied, in order to avoid duplicating material. I am happy to discuss details over the phone beforehand.

Courses of shorter duration can be arranged at dates not crossing a booked full week.
